FEBRUARY HIGHLIGHT

The Law and Writers: What You Need to Know

Whether you are writing fiction, a memoir, a screenplay, or a news story, you should understand the language and laws designed to protect you and others in your work. And once you have a deal in hand, you should know whether it’s in your best interest.

New York media law attorney Ryan Fox is here with a primer on privacy, copyright, publicity, fair use, libel, publishing, defamation, negotiation and more.

Join us for this in-person talk by Ryan, followed by a Q&A, at the Story Lab on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m.

Feel free to ask about:

  • Making your big deal into your best deal

  • Spilling the truth in your memoir

  • Your rights as a freelancer

  • To copyright my work or not?

  • Legal concerns before you get my book published

  • Can you get sued for writing this?

  • How not to libel or slander someone in your work

  • Safeguarding your creative rights and content on your way to the top

  • And more!

This event is co-sponsored by the Connecticut Press Club, and is free to Story Lab and Press Club members. Guests welcome. Guest fee, $10. All, please register above.
